Working with us

What does Grasso Consulting Engineers do?

Civil engineering, structural engineering and project management. In practice that means two things: structural advice to demolition contractors on taking down buildings, bridges and industrial structures, including temporary works and heavy lifting; and the structural design of new buildings, from apartment towers to homes and swimming pools.

Do you work directly with demolition contractors?

Yes. Our regular clients include the four major demolition contractors in New South Wales and Queensland. Jim is involved in planning from the outset, assists in preparing the demolition methodology, and reviews, modifies where necessary and approves the structural engineering content of the work method statements.

Can you design temporary works?

Yes: modular climbing screens and formwork structures (design and certification), façade retention structures, falsework and scaffolding, slab propping, shoring and anchoring, and lifting cradles and rigging for heavy lifts.

Are you a Registered Design Practitioner?

Yes. Jim Grasso is a Registered Design Practitioner – Structural (NSW) under the Design and Building Practitioners Act, a Chartered Professional Engineer on the National Engineering Register, a Fellow of Engineers Australia, and a Registered Professional Engineer of Queensland (RPEQ).

Where do you work?

The practice is based at Milsons Point in Sydney. Projects have ranged across Sydney and regional New South Wales, from Albury to Newcastle and Forbes, and into Queensland for bridge demolitions on the Ipswich Motorway and the M1.

What kinds of buildings do you design?

Apartment buildings up to 18 storeys, office buildings up to 24 storeys, shopping centres, cinemas, clubs, schools, car dealerships, factories and industrial buildings, and hundreds of new homes, additions and alterations, and swimming pools.

Do you provide expert witness services?

Yes. Jim has appeared as an expert witness in a number of hearings in the Land and Environment Court of NSW.

How do we get started?

Email Jim with the site address, any drawings you have and your programme, or use the enquiry form on the contact page. You will hear back from the engineer who will do the work.
